Das Medium Internet spielte eine wichtige Rolle in der diesjährigen Unterhauswahl in England. Die “Hansard Society”- Studie ‘Spinning the Web’ zeigt, dass sich die Onlineaktivitäten seit 2001 verdoppelt haben und das sich die Wähler durch das Internet besser informiert gefühlt haben. Trotzdem: Lediglich 15% der Bevölkerung informiert sich online über die Wahlen in England, so die Studie.

Einige Ergebnisse der Studie:

* about 13% sent or received emails about the election in 2005, compared to 5% in 2001.
* 17% used the internet for election information on at least a few occasions, up from 7%.
* 22% visited a media website, compared to 11% four years ago.
* Figures for online activities such as discussion, opinion polls, volunteering and donations are still small but are more than double 2001 levels.
* 18% of those questioned this year said the internet had helped them make a better informed choice and 19% said that it helped them make up their mind – compared to 6% in 2001.
